Whether you're visiting Pensacola for the first time or have been a resident for years, you'll find that certain area locations and activities are iconic. If you're making a bucket list, our real estate agents, who know the area well, suggest these experiences you'll want to include.

  1. Order a Burger from Blue Dot - 310 N. De Villiers St., Pensacola, FL 32501
At Blue Dot, it's all about the burger—seriously, it's the only entree on the menu except for ribs, offered several days a week. Generations of satisfied customers have made the restaurant's burgers a tradition. You won't find any frills here, and the restaurant's unassuming exterior has just one small sign to let you know you're at the right place. The only additional menu items are chips and water or soda, but the burgers are so good you won't need anything else.

  2. Paddle Down Coldwater Creek - 8049 Horseshoe Loop One Road, Milton, FL 32570
    Coldwater Creek
, located near Milton homes for sale, is one of the most scenic destinations to paddle, whether by kayak, canoe, or tube. The water is one of Florida's fastest currents, and it's clear and cold. If you'd like to take a break and picnic, you'll find many sandbars along the way. Keep an eye out to spot wildlife, including deer, turtles, alligators, and plenty of birds, attracted by the many trees surrounding the creek. The paddling trail is 19 miles long, but you'll find plenty of entry points that can shorten your trip.

  3. Try a Bushwacker from Flora-Bama - 17401 Perdido Key Drive, Pensacola, FL 32507
Other bars may serve their version of a Bushwacker, but Flora-Bama, located on the border of Florida and Alabama, is widely recognized as having the definitive version of the boozy milkshake. The recipe is a secret, but based on what's generally expected in a Bushwacker, you're probably getting light and dark rum as well as Kahlua, Amaretto, and Crème de Cacao liqueurs. The result is a drink that's tasty and refreshing.

  4. Take a Trip to Naval Air Station Pensacola - 150 Hase Road, Pensacola, FL 32508 (Fort Barrancas, Naval Air Station, and Lighthouse)
Pensacola is home to Fort Barrancas, the Naval Air Station, and Pensacola Lighthouse, each of which has a rich history as part of this nation's defense. Fort Barrancas is perched on a bluff that overlooks Pensacola Bay and was completed in 1844. The fort is closed until May but will reopen with short hiking trails, ranger programs, and more. And don't miss the Naval Air Station, which houses the National Naval Aviation Museum and is one of the largest of its type in the world. You'll be able to see historic aircraft, cockpits, artifacts, and interactive exhibits. Finally, climb the 177 steps up the Pensacola Lighthouse, built in 1859, to be treated to amazing views.

  5. Plan a Beach Day for the Blue Angels Pensacola Beach Air Show (Second Weekend in July) - 41 Fort Pickens Road, Pensacola Beach, FL 32561
The Pensacola Beach Air Show, held near Pensacola Beach homes for sale, takes place on July 10-13, 2024, so plan to be out on the beach on one or more of these days to see an amazing spectacle. You'll get to watch the Navy's Blue Angels flight demonstration team in the air, as well as other flights, including one for veterans and a wing-walking demonstration.

  6. Go Camping at Fort Pickens - 1463 Fort Pickens Road, Pensacola Beach, FL 32561
    Fort Pickens Campground
, located on Santa Rosa Island, is an ideal spot to pitch a tent or park your RV. You'll see beautiful views, walk on white sand, and swim or snorkel in warm ocean waters. Pier fishing and hiking trails are also available, and the camp's amenities include fire pits, picnic tables, paved parking pad, heated showers, and flush toilets.
