Overlooking the Gulf of Mexico in the Florida Panhandle, Pensacola offers a wealth of opportunities for outdoor recreation. It's not hard to stay active in Pensacola, and if you're looking for great places to run or jog, then you won't have to look too far.

From beachfront trails and greenways to public parks and outdoor tracks, runners have a lot of options. These are some of our real estate agents' favorite running routes in Pensacola and the surrounding area.

  • Community Maritime Park - 301 W. Main St., Pensacola, FL 32501
Overlooking the waterfront in the heart of Pensacola, Community Maritime Park is a popular spot for running that's convenient to many Pensacola homes for sale. The park is home to the Blue Wahoos Stadium, and the wraparound promenade that surrounds the stadium is a great place to start running. The promenade connects to several other paved trails throughout the park, and runners can also head east on Main Street toward Bayfront Parkway, a waterfront running route with beautiful views of the Gulf and Downtown Pensacola.

  • UWF West Campus Trails - 11969 Pate St., Pensacola, FL 32514
Some of the best trail running in the Pensacola area can be found on the West Campus of the University of West Florida. Twisting and turning through several acres of wooded hills, the UWF West Campus Trails offer a rugged and scenic area for running. Runners have over 35 miles of trails to choose from, each color-coded for easy navigation. Motorized vehicles are not permitted on the West Campus Trails, but expect to share the path with mountain bikers, dog walkers, and even the occasional horseback rider.

  • Pensacola Beach - 41 Fort Pickens Road, Pensacola Beach, FL 32561
Beach running is great for anyone who wants a challenge. Running through the powdery white sand of Pensacola Beach isn't easy, but the beautiful scenery more than makes up for the effort. The beach stretches for 8 uninterrupted miles along the Gulf-facing side of Santa Rosa Island, which offers 40 total miles of beaches that are accessible via several different routes from the mainland. Road running is also permitted along Route 399, also known as the Pensacola Beach Trail, which runs the length of the island.

  • Navy Point Park Trail - 400 NW Syrcle Drive, Pensacola, FL 32507
One of Escambia County's largest waterfront parks, Navy Point Park includes a 3.5-mile out-and-back path that hugs the shoreline. Flat and paved, the trail is perfect for running and walking, with beautiful coastal views and ample shade from the adult oak trees that dot the park. Navy Point Park also has exercise stations along the trail as well as several park benches for resting and enjoying the view.

  • Big Lagoon State Park - 12301 Gulf Beach Highway, Pensacola, FL 32507
Overlooking Big Lagoon and just across the Theo Baars Bridge from Perdido Key, Big Lagoon State Park is a beautiful running destination that hosts the annual Bay to Breakfast 8K, a Pensacola Runner's Association event. Pathways are widely varied here, and the parks offer opportunities for road running as well as hiking trails and boardwalks. The 5.3-mile Sand Pine Loop utilizes all of the above, making it one of the most popular running circuits in the park. Entrance into Big Lagoon State Park is $6 per vehicle or just $2 for pedestrians.
